General presentation
The SIMPA (Stress IMmunité PAthogènes) Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research unit located on the Brabois-Santé Campus on the outskirts of Nancy, and is part of the Biology-Medicine-Health Cluster of the University of Lorraine. It brings together immunologists, microbiologists and neurobiologists working to understand the effects of gravitational stresses and chronic socio-environmental stresses on the immune system, microorganisms and the central nervous system. The research carried out within the unit also aims to develop countermeasures intended to reduce the deleterious effects of these stresses in the perspective of long-term space missions (research programs of the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) and the European Space Agency (ESA)) and in the context of terrestrial life (chronic stresses). Since 2020, the unit has been in charge of an ESA ground infrastructure (GEPAM platform).
Models used :
- Murine model of chronic socio-environmental stress (CUMS) mimicking everyday life annoyances
- Mice exposed to hypergravity
- Mice exposed to hindimb unloading to simulate microgravity
- Real microgravity (experiments on board the International Space Station)
- Human subjected to extended bed rest, a space model that can be considered as the equivalent of murine hindlimb unloading
- Humans staying at the Concordia base in Antarctica
- Clinical Studies
- Molecular biology, cellular biology, behavior, histology, microbiology, microscopy, next generation sequencing (Illumina), flow cytometry
